About the poster: Created to promote an exhibition held at the Musée de l’Automobile, this poster captures the spirit of an ambitious cultural project. Conceived by Adrien Maeght, renowned art collector and founder of the Fondation Aimé Maeght in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, the museum was a charming and thoughtfully designed space nestled among the trees.
Despite its elegant layout and notable collection, the museum suffered from its location: bordered by a highway on one side and a narrow rural road on the other. The idea of offering a “car museum” accessible directly from the A8 motorway, while intriguing in concept, ultimately proved ill-fated. Visitors use highways to travel, not to seek out museums, and the project, though full of promise, struggled to find its audience.
The Musée de l'Automobiliste in Mougins, France, is no longer in operation. It went out of business in December 2008.
