About this poster: This vintage poster was once used to recruit soldiers for the Royal Highlanders during the First World War. It called for reinforcements to join the famous 12th, 42nd, and 73rd Battalions, promising that 250 men would be sent overseas immediately.

A bold invitation to join battalions that had already earned their reputation at the Front. The regiment behind this poster, The Black Watch, also known as the Royal Highland Regiment of Canada, has deep roots right here in Montreal. Founded in 1862 by influential members of the city’s Scottish community, it became a cornerstone of Montréal’s military and cultural history. Their armoury, built in 1905 and 1906, still stands proudly on Bleury Street. It served not only as a military hub, but also as an important community space. Today, it’s a National Historic Site of Canada and home to the Black Watch Museum, although currently closed for renovation.

Poster was recently linen backed. Rare and ready to frame !
