About the poster:
The PCI (Partito Communista Italiano, or Italian Communist Party) was established in 1921 under the leadership of (among others) famed Italian philosopher Antonio Gramsci. By the mid 20th century, the party was the second largest political party in Italy and the largest communist party in the Western world, and its members played a major role in the Italian Resistance during the second World War.
Despite this popularity, the party weakened in the second half of the 20th century. Increasing disagreements with the USSR, CIA interference, and rising political violence in the 1970's and 80's lead the the PCI's dissolution in 1991 alongside the Soviet Union.
This poster was printed in 1956 to encourage people to vote communist ("vota comunista"). It is in good condition, with visible fold lines and slight fraying at the edges. See photos for more details.
