About The PosterThe Unidad Popular (UP) in Chile was a left-wing political coalition that came to power in 1970 with the election of Salvador Allende. During this period, posters became a key tool for political communication, used to mobilize supporters, promote social programs, and express the coalition’s vision of socialism and social justice. These posters often combined bold colors, strong typography, and striking imagery to convey messages to a largely visual audience, reflecting both political urgency and cultural identity.

Artists working on UP posters included designers from studios like the Oficina Larrea, as well as independent illustrators and graphic designers such as Luis Albornoz. They created works that were not only propagandistic but also artistically innovative, blending modern graphic techniques with local cultural references. These posters remain iconic today, both as historical documents and as examples of Chilean graphic design at its most expressive and socially engaged.

Title translation: Chile put on long pants, now the copper is chilean!
