About the Poster :
This Contemporary piece is part of Canadian artist Sébastien Lepine's "Ode de Montreal" series. It highlights the baseball player Jackie Robinson, who played for the Montreal Royals in 1946, wearing the number 9 jersey. The next year, Robinson joined the Brooklyn Dodgers, subsequently becoming the first black man to enter a Major League Baseball team, and ending 6 decades of racial segregation within the sport.
In 1946, post-WW2, both Robinson and The city were blooming towards new horizons. In this piece,Sébastien Lepine pays a double homage to the player and to the city at a critical moment in both their histories.
