This colourful French advertising poster was created to promote the bas dural - a supportive hosiery marketed to women. The ad humourously compares legs without socks to a bird without feathers while also promoting the strength of the product.

The city of Troyes, the site of the Bonneterie de l'Abbaye that produced the bas dural, is found in North Eastern France and has a tradition of producing hosiery and other textiles going back to the 1500s. By the early 1900s, Troyes was producing more than 50% of the country's hosiery and it's reputation for excellence in all things fabric led is at the origin of the Polo shirt and the establishment of the fashion brand Lacoste in the 1930s.

This poster comes to us from a private collection. It is in excellent condition and ready to be framed - a perfect addition to any home!
