About The Poster: A fabulous travel poster advertising La Ferté-Bernard, a commune in the Sarthe department in the Pays de la Loire region in north-western France. Designed for the French National Railways by Pierre Commarmond who created many posters for the SNCF.
The SNCF (Société Nationale des Chemins de fer français; "French National Railway Corporation"), is France's national state-owned railway company. Begun in 1938, it used posters from its inception to advertise the multitude of destinations which were served by its rail-lines. We feel that this poster, created shortly after the company itself was created is a wonderful testament to Art Deco design: strong colors and visuals which pop, clean graphic design and great typography. Classic! Poster is lined and in very good condition.
From a private collection. Linen-backed and ready to frame.
