Size: 18 x 26.5 inches
Artist: Borgoni, Mario
About The Poster:
Printed in Belgium for the Brussels company Yphandi Cigarettes. Internet research has yielded no results for the company. However, the artist for this poster, Mario Borgoni, was a well known Belle Epoque poster maker.
Mario Borgoni (1869-1936, Italy) was born in Pesaro, Italy. He studied at the Art Institute of Naples (Italy), where he later he taught. He began working with the Richter & Co. printing house in 1900, later becoming its director. He is known for introducing the double-pane layout, by which the picture was divided between a foreground cursive "frame," with the text content at the bottom, and an enclosed background-area carrying the graphic content. Borgoni used this technique for travel and tobacco posters over decades.
This poster is in fair condition, linen backed and ready to frame.
