About the poster: This vintage Buvard paper advertised Neige d'Ostéra, a salt lick designed to provide essential minerals like sodium, potassium, and magnesium. These minerals support hydration, muscle function, and electrolyte balance. In animal husbandry, salt licks are especially important for calves, helping prevent deficiencies that can stunt growth or weaken immunity. For calves, they promote healthy bone development, digestion, and overall growth—nutritional support that grain or forage alone may not fully provide.
This is a Buvard or Blotting paper, a porous paper capable of absorbing a small amount of liquid by capillarity. It is mainly used to dry aqueous ink when writing or drawing with a pen: the ink can be deposited irregularly and dries slowly and can cause stains and smudges, the use of blotting paper is often necessary. With the fountain pen whose ink is regulated and dries more quickly, then other writing tools ( ballpoint pen, felt-tip pen) this use has become less frequent. At the beginning of the 20th century, blotting paper was an advertising medium of choice and blotting papers have become collector's items. (Wikipedia)
